Project Description:
Preservation Vision: Planning for the Future of Preservation in New York City was a year-long initiative (2008-09) to engage those interested in preservation with a conversation about their aspirations for New York City of 2030 and the actions needed to make those hopes a reality.
Over the past 60 years the historic preservation movement has made significant contributions to the prosperity and growth of New York City. In a city as dynamic and economically prosperous as New York the movement has taken hold, had an impact and enhanced the culture, character and quality of life in the city.
Now we are at the beginning of a new planning period for another anticipated time of rapid growth and change. City wide planning efforts, including PlaNYC, will impact all sectors. Contributing to these discussions is critical if historic preservation is to continue to play a role in shaping the city's future.
To be fully prepared to contribute to the city-wide planning efforts, preservation must consider its' own best prospects and ideal role for the future. To create this unique forum for members of the preservation movement and other interested New Yorkers to discuss, debate and create a vision for the future, Preservation Vision: Planning for the Future of Preservation in New York City was launched.
This project was the initiative of a group of New York City charitable funders with long-standing interest in the preservation sector. See Who's Involved.
The project was managed by the non-profit organization, Minerva Partners.
